Leopard Now
I was the sheep, shorn in the Spring
Having never been before shorn,
Afraid of my bareness
Unfamiliar
Pleased at my freedom
Then I was the lamb
Hauled off to the slaughter
By my Caretaker,
Smiles in his eyes,
As I went along with him
Now I am the leopard
The littlest of the big cats
Solitary
But what a jaw
Protected in the trees
